Manual Lymph Drainage
A gentle, precise approach to supporting lymphatic movement
How Does the Lymphatic System Move Fluid?
Manual Lymph Drainage, also known as MLD, is a specialized hands-on technique developed by Dr. Emil Vodder. Unlike traditional massage, MLD does not use deep pressure or kneading. It uses slow, rhythmic movements and gentle skin stretching to stimulate lymphatic vessels and encourage fluid toward functioning lymph nodes and pathways. The pressure is light, but it is not simply feather touch. You may feel the skin gently stretch and release as each movement is performed.
The lymphatic system does not have a central pump like the heart. Lymph movement is supported by breathing, muscle activity, movement of the body, and the natural contractions of the lymphatic vessels. Manual Lymph Drainage works with these pathways using a specific sequence, direction, rhythm, and pressure.

The Video shows how indocyanine Green (ICG) lymphography is used to visualize real-time lymph flow while a therapist performs Manual Lymph Drainage. It's an excellent demonstration of how gentle MLD techniques help redirect fluid, open functional pathways, and improve lymphatic movement.
